Well, technically it was done for $125, but honestly, with a used stock tank (they ARE out there- less so in my urban area) and a freebie oil barrel (not uncommon), you could probably make one of these pioneer style ”cannibal hot tubs” for about $50. I live near Boston too and things here are more expensive than other parts of the country too, hence the general title of ”$100”. I did use a freebie piece of repurposed or found pipe for a chimney flue too. Anyway, this is a very simple DIY spa or hot tub project that would be great for any off grid homesteads or even for people in the low dough and light living tiny house and small cabin world. Yes, it takes awhile to heat up, but if you have an abundance of free wood (or even pallet wood) at your disposal, its really no big deal (and you can even cook or heat food on the top of it- its almost like a skillet or grill). I actually see the process of firing up this hot tub as an excuse to clear my yard of sticks and debris. All you need for this simple homemade DIY project is a stock tank, a metal barrel, a grinder, pavers, something to function as a flue pipe. some screws and a drill. A project like this doesn’t require much skill or precision. Have fun with it! Note- I’ve seen other version of these on HGTV and DIY Network shows and so forth, but this version works well, and costs a lot less. You might want to landscape around it later though (as I plan on showing in another video) as it isn’t all that ”gorgeous”- again, it works WELL though- almost too well, as I’ll describe.
