Welcome to Camp Bearwallow an experience in simpler living!
Escape to mid century Appalachia — Everything you need to step back in time, before indoor plumbing, while still having the luxury of flipping on a lightswitch & electric heat.
Experience heating water on the stove for baths & coffee, keep your drinks chilled in the refrigerator, & still have the experience of an outdoor toilet, bathing in a wash basin & cooking outdoors over a fire.
20 min to Harrisonburg
The space
Camp Bearwallow is an experience!
Enjoy the peaceful setting, with a stream running through,
hiking and mountain biking in the neighboring national forest, and simply relaxing with nature!
All while having the amenities, of heat, electricity, a kitchen and easy access to the road!
The kitchen has the major appliances: refrigerator with freezer, oven, stove, microwave, toaster, and coffee maker.
It even has “running water” with 5 gallon water jugs and a camp water pump, making dish washing easy!
Along with pots, pans, dishes, utensils, a French press and coffee grinder. We stock the water (15 gallons, and we will bring more if you need it, just let us know when you’re switching over to your last bottle.
There’s also a hot and cold water dispenser to allow for easy drinking water access.
The bedroom has a queen size bed. There will be fresh linens on the beds, with extras stored, with the linens for the living room futon, if needed.
Towels and cloths: kitchen towels and dish cloths, bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths and “dirt towels” (located by the front door), are provided.
There is a wash basin for bathing in the bedroom with soap, shampoo and conditioner provided. Extra bath towels and wash cloths are stored below; along with toiletries you may have forgotten.
The living room has front porch access, and is equipped with a futon that folds out just larger than a twin bed.
Linens for the futon are located in the storage Ottoman, along with the board games.
We keep a stock of local interest books, maps and tourism attractions; as well as a few novels. You’re welcome to take the novels with you, if you’re not done reading. If you can, leave one behind!
The toilet is a clean Johnny house, with toilet paper and cedar shavings, to keep things fresh.
There is extra toilet paper, in the cabin, which you may want to take out with you — on cool winter nights, warm toilet paper is nice. 🙂
There is a battery powered lantern (and extra batteries) in the cabin to light the way to the outhouse, as well as motion-sensor solar lights.
Cleaning products are located below the pantry, if you need them, but we have a cleaning team, just leave the place broom swept, with dishes clean, we’ll take care of the rest!
